Epic Seven Beginner's Guide: Master Early Game & Wyvern 13
Updated October 12, 2026
Welcome, Heir, to the world of Epic Seven! This guide is designed to set you on the right path, focusing on efficient progression and understanding core game mechanics. Your ultimate early-game goal is to establish a consistent team capable of farming Wyvern 13, as this will provide the foundational gear needed for all other content.
Core Combat Mechanics: Effectiveness and Resistance
Before diving into anything else, grasp the fundamental interaction between Effectiveness and Effect Resistance. Whenever a debuff attempts to land on an enemy, a calculation occurs. If the attempt fails, you'll see "Resistance" appear above the target. To ensure your debuffs land reliably, stack Effectiveness on your debuff-focused heroes. Conversely, to protect your own units from enemy debuffs, build Effect Resistance. No debuff is ever guaranteed to land 100% of the time, but optimizing these stats significantly improves your chances.
Essential Early-Game Currencies
Epic Seven features numerous currencies, but focusing on these key ones will accelerate your early progression:
- Skystones: Premium currency, used for summoning, energy refreshes, and shop purchases. Conserve for daily shop refreshes or crucial summons.
- Covenant Bookmarks: Used for Covenant Summons, your primary source of new heroes.
- Gold: Required for almost everything: gear upgrades, hero promotion, unequip costs, and shop purchases. You'll never have enough.
- Stigma: Farmed from adventure stages, used in the Sanctuary's Forest of Souls to create Penguins (EXP materials) and Blooms (promotion materials).
- Molagora: Extremely rare and vital for upgrading hero skills. Use them only on your most important heroes.
- Leifs: Energy recovery items. Use them to farm during buff events or when you need a specific material urgently.
Heroes and Artifacts: What to Keep
Not every hero or artifact is worth investing in. Here's a general guideline:
- 3-Star Heroes: Many 3-star heroes are strong and gain significant power through Specialty Change quests. Keep at least one copy of each, especially those recommended for Wyvern 13 or other early content.
- 4-Star Heroes: Often powerful and versatile. Many remain relevant into late game. Keep all unique copies.
- 5-Star Heroes: Always keep every 5-star hero. They are rare and powerful assets.
- Artifacts: Always keep at least one copy of every artifact. Certain 3-star artifacts (like Daydream Joker) are incredibly strong for specific content like Hunts.
- Fodder: Use 1-star and 2-star heroes (known as Phantasmas and Penguins) to level up and promote other heroes. Never use valuable heroes or gear as experience material.
Free Powerhouses: Connection Heroes
Epic Seven is generous with powerful free heroes obtained through "Connections" quests. Prioritize completing these as you progress through the story:
- Tamarinne (Episode 3): An exceptional PvE healer and support unit.
- Furious (Episode 2): A key debuffer for Wyvern 13, providing critical hit chance and defense break.
- Adventurer Ras (Episode 2): A strong knight with defense break and invaluable utility.
Moonlight Blessing & Milestone of Radiance
These systems offer early access to powerful heroes and gear.
Moonlight Blessing (Free ML 5-star Hero)
As you clear story stages, you'll unlock the Moonlight Blessing. This allows you to select one free Moonlight 5-star hero. Consider choosing Arbiter Vildred for his strong damage and cleave potential, or Ruelea of Light for her incredible healing and resurrection capabilities, particularly useful as a tank in early Wyvern.
Milestone of Radiance
This system provides free gear sets and specific hero choices.
- From the initial chest offering three heroes, select Charles. He becomes essential for a specific piece of PvE content later on.
- Purchase gear sets from the Milestone exchange in this order:
- Destruction and Critical sets
- Speed and Health sets
Path of the Heir
Another sequence of rewards that helps new players acquire essential gear and resources. Complete these missions as they become available to quickly power up your starting roster.
Unlocking Early Game Systems
As you advance through the main story, various game modes and systems will gradually unlock. Here's a general order and what they offer:
- Episode (Story): Push through Episode 2 Chapter 4 to unlock Adventurer Ras, and continue to Episode 3 for Tamarinne. Aim to 3-star each stage for Covenant Bookmarks, Skystones, and Molagora.
- Spirit Altar: Farm Runes here to Awaken your heroes. Farm during the monthly 2x Rune events. Easy difficulty for Common Runes, Hell for Greater and Epic Runes.
- Sanctuary: Your base of operations. The Forest of Souls converts Stigma into Penguins and Blooms. The Heart of Orbis generates Leifs and gear from Tainted Relics. The Alchemist's Steeple crafts Charms and Modification Gems.
- Abyss: A challenging tower-like mode offering substantial one-time rewards, including Skystones and powerful artifacts.
- Labyrinth: Explore these dungeons without an entry fee. Visit Vagrant Merchant Huche daily for unique items, then yield to keep your purchases.
- Guild (Rank 10): Join a guild, donate daily, participate in World Boss and Guild War. Utilize the Member Shop for Molagora, gem chests, and artifacts. Many Connection quests require guild membership.
- Arena (Episode 1 Chapter 4): Start early to capitalize on double Conquest Points during your first month. Target weaker defenses, and use Revenge and NPC Challenges.
- Grace of Growth: Temporarily boosts two heroes to max level and Awakenings, perfect for one-off content like Abyss or Advent challenges without permanent resource investment.
- Specialty Change: Empower specific 3-star heroes by completing quests, granting them enhanced stats, stronger skills, and new effects.
- Shadow Company & Automaton Tower (Episode 2): Rotating PvE content with a valuable battle pass. Complete it every 3-week cycle.
- Hall of Trials (Episode 2 Chapter 4): Earn Exclusive Equipment that upgrades specific hero skills. Aim for SSS+ score weekly for Wisdom's Gaze currency.
- Pets (Rank 20): Engage with the daily summons. Prioritize developing a Hunt pet for bonus rewards.
Building Your Wyvern 13 Team
Wyvern 13 is your primary gear farming engine. The game provides many of the necessary units and gear through the "A Journey to Succession" challenges. Your goal is a team that can consistently defeat Wyvern 13 on Auto.
Typical Wyvern 13 Team Composition:
- Front-Line Tank (Ice Element): Needs high HP, Defense, and Effect Resistance. They soak damage and apply debuffs if possible.
- Recommended: Angelica (from Grace of Growth), Ruele of Light (from Moonlight Blessing if chosen), Brieg (obtained through missions).
- Key Artifact: Proof of Valor (for damage reduction) or Candlestick (for cooldown reduction if taking damage).
- Debuffer (Ice Element): Applies crucial debuffs like Defense Break and Target to the Wyvern.
- Recommended: Furious (Connection hero). Maximize his Skill 2 and 3 for turn reduction and debuff chances.
- Key Artifact: Song of Stars (for Target debuff).
- Damage Dealers (Ice Element, 2 units): Provide the majority of the damage output.
- Recommended: Sigret (from missions), Muwi (from missions), Fenne (if you summon her).
- Key Artifact: Daydream Joker (essential for Hunt damage, stack two of these).
Progression through "A Journey to Succession":
- The challenges will initially give you heroes like Angelica or Ruele for your tank, and other damage dealers. Equip them with HP gear from the Milestone shop and Path of the Heir.
- You will then acquire Furious and his artifact, Song of Stars.
- Next, Muwi joins, a fantastic Ice unit who applies multiple debuffs and scales well with Daydream Joker.
- Finally, Sigret is provided, an elite single-target damage dealer, perfect for Wyvern. Brieg also joins as a top-tier tank.
Your final team might look like Brieg (Tank), Furious (Debuffer), Muwi (Debuffer/DPS), Sigret (DPS). This team is highly efficient and largely free-to-play friendly.
Genesis Ras: A Powerful Free Unit
Once unlocked through the story, Genesis Ras's four-part questline rewards you with an excellent free PvE and PvP unit, along with his imprints. This quest involves:
- Completing simple daily tasks.
- Farming specific currencies.
- Dismantling +9 gear (save some older gear for this).
- Submitting materials like Stigma, Silver Transmit Stones, Blooms, and Leifs.
There's no rush to complete this; progress at your own pace alongside your regular farming.
Hunts and Gear Sets
Each Hunt drops specific gear sets. Wyvern 13 is your first priority due to the universal utility of the Speed set.
Wyvern 13: Your Gear Engine
- Drops: Speed, Hit, Critical, and Immunity sets. The Speed set is the most crucial, forming the backbone of almost every hero build. Hit and Critical are also foundational. Immunity is excellent for PvP.
Golem 13: Defensive Sets
- Drops: Defense, Health, Destruction, and Penetration sets. Complete Normal difficulty once to unlock Cermia and get some free gear. These sets are more PvP-focused, so don't prioritize farming Golem early.
Banshee 13: Bruiser Sets
- Drops: Lifesteal, Counter, Destruction, and Resist sets. Clear Normal difficulty once for Vivian and some free gear. Destruction is good for PvE; other sets are primarily for PvP. Rift can be an alternative source.
Azimanak 13: Immunity and Rage
- Drops: Immunity, Rage, Unity, and Torrent sets. Immunity remains strong in PvP. Rage is excellent for PvE damage when debuffs are guaranteed. Less critical to farm now with easier access to Destruction and Penetration gear.
Caides 13: Penetration
- Drops: Penetration, Revenge, Injury, and Defiance sets. The hardest Hunt. Penetration is a top-tier 2-set for single-target damage. By the time you need these sets, Rift may be a more efficient source.
Expeditions and Modification Gems
Expeditions are a vital source of Substat Modification Gems, which allow you to change one substat on a +15 piece of gear. These unlock after clearing any Hunt on Normal difficulty.
- Wanted Posters: These drop from Hunts and Rifts. Post yours and assist other players with theirs.
- Daily Entry: Always use your free entry daily, even if you yield immediately. You still earn Gold.
- Open Expedition: Unlock this to hit any public poster. You can spend your energy early in the month to finish rewards quickly.
Arena and Guild War
These PvP modes provide weekly Skystones and are excellent for testing your heroes and team compositions.
- Arena: Push as high as you can weekly for Skystones. Use it as practice for Guild War, as hero pools often overlap.
- Offense vs. Defense: Winning on offense is paramount. Your defensive teams will often lose; the goal is to make them annoying enough to deter opponents.
- Basic Offense Team: Often involves a strong damage dealer, a defense breaker, a debuffer, and a cleanser/healer.
Mid to Late Game Content
Once Wyvern 13 is consistently on farm and you're making progress in PvP, the game truly opens up. Explore these additional pillars of content:
- Rift: An alternative way to farm gear sets without the difficulty of the hardest Hunts.
- Story Expeditions: Challenging PvE content with unique mechanics and rewards.
- Tower of Training: A weekly challenge rewarding Molagora and other valuable resources.
- Ancient Inheritance: A monthly guild-based roguelike event with exclusive rewards.
Gear Management: The True End-Game
After establishing your Wyvern 13 farm, gear management becomes the primary focus of Epic Seven. You'll spend countless hours farming, crafting, and upgrading gear to optimize your heroes. Learning to identify good gear, efficiently upgrade it, and manage your inventory is key to long-term progression.
Quick Tips
- Prioritize Wyvern: Your number one early game goal for gear.
- Don't Waste Molagora: Only use on key heroes and essential skills.
- Save Skystones: Use for energy refreshes during buff events or daily shop refreshes.
- Do Dailies: Consistency is key for resource accumulation.
- Join a Guild: Essential for resources and progression.
- Use Free Gear: Milestone of Radiance and Path of the Heir gear is powerful early on.
- Daydream Joker: Max this 3-star artifact for Hunt damage.
