Epic Seven Game Systems & Modes: Hero Development, Equipment & Arena Guide

Updated October 12, 2026

Welcome, Heir, to a comprehensive overview of Epic Seven's fundamental systems and engaging game modes. Understanding these mechanics is crucial for building a powerful team and dominating both PvE and PvP content.

Hero Progression

Developing your heroes is central to success. This involves several interconnected processes that boost their combat prowess.

Leveling and Promotion

Heroes gain experience through battles, increasing their statistics. For quicker advancement, use Penguins as enhancement materials. These can be nurtured in the Sanctuary's Forest of Souls and provide substantial experience points.

Promotion elevates a hero's maximum level cap by ten. A hero can reach a maximum level of 60. This process requires Spirit Blooms, categorized by grade (Lesser to Epic), also obtainable from the Forest of Souls.

Awakening

Awakening significantly improves a hero's base stats and strengthens their abilities. This process demands specific Runes and Catalysts. Higher awakening tiers require more materials but yield greater statistical gains, offering a more potent power spike than simple leveling.

Runes are primarily acquired from the Spirit Altar, accessible via the Battle menu. If you find yourself with an abundance of low-grade Runes but need higher ones, the Rune Combine function allows you to merge ten lower-grade Runes into one higher-grade Rune. Be mindful that combining Runes costs Gold, and lower-grade Runes might have other future uses.

Equipment System

Equipment is a primary method for amplifying your heroes' capabilities. Strategic equipment choices can dramatically alter a hero's effectiveness.

Enhancement

Equipment enhancement boosts an item's main statistics. This is done by consuming other equipment pieces or Charms. The more an item is enhanced, the greater its stat increase. Weapons primarily raise attack, armor boosts defense, and helmets increase health. Rings, necklaces, and boots provide a diverse range of stats. Match equipment types to your hero's needs.

Artifact enhancement also uses Charms. Unlike equipment, artifacts don't gain additional effects but their skill effects improve every three enhancement levels. Using a duplicate artifact as enhancement material can increase its level up to 30, potentially doubling the maximum level artifact's effects.

Additional Effects on equipment appear every three enhancement levels, up to a total of four, depending on the item's base rarity. If an item already has four sub-stats, one of them will randomly receive a stat increase. Equipment can be upgraded up to level 15, providing five opportunities to roll additional stats or sub-stat increases.

Crafting

The Steel Workshop allows you to craft superior equipment compared to drops from Episodes or Labyrinth. Crafted gear uses materials from Hunt dungeons and is categorized into random sets. If you seek specific, powerful items, the Steel Workshop is your destination.

Hunt dungeons provide the essential crafting materials. Each Hunt type offers different equipment sets and materials, so target the Hunts that drop what you need. Occasionally, you might acquire valuable equipment directly from a Hunt, or you can use the gathered materials to craft desired pieces.

Pairing specific equipment pieces activates powerful Set Effects.

Game Modes

Epic Seven offers a variety of content to challenge your heroes and earn rewards.

Side Stories

Side Stories are limited-time events offering unique narratives and rewards. They typically run for three weeks.

  • Eulogy for a Saint: Players earn Wagon Grass from stages to exchange for items. Guardian Amulets become available in later stages (from 20. Icicle Garden onward).

    • Bask, a 3-star hero, is acquired early on and can be Memory Imprinted using Old Pocketwatches from the event.
    • Some quests require Preceding Achievements to be met, indicated by gauges on the map or in quest menus. These involve clearing specific stages or fulfilling conditions.
    • Defense Stages feature five waves of enemies and may include monsters that heal or buff allies when defeated. Goddess Statues and Treasure Chests are absent.
    • World Difficulty for specific stages unlocks after clearing their Normal counterparts. Achievements can also be earned here.
  • So the Roses May Bloom: This side story emphasizes narrative choices. Entering story stages costs no energy, but event currency is only earned from dedicated combat stages (one per week).

    • Choices throughout the story lead to different paths and endings. Players can re-enter cleared stages to make alternative choices.
    • Branching Stages are unlocked based on prior choices. Not all are essential for the main story progression.
    • Players can navigate between chapters using a Warp button or the World map after completing the final stage of a chapter.

World Arena (Real-time PvP)

World Arena allows real-time battles against players globally. Rewards are distributed at season's end based on rank. Guardians and Supporters are unavailable here. Battles that extend too long activate Battle Frenzy, increasing damage dealt but reducing max health and healing for all heroes.

Match Process:

  1. Hero Picking: One player is randomly chosen to pick first. Players alternate picking two heroes until both have selected five. Heroes already picked by an opponent cannot be chosen. Automatic selection occurs if a player fails to pick within the time limit, prioritizing heroes with high Combat Power.
  2. Hero Banning: Each player bans one hero from their opponent's selected five. The remaining four participate. If no hero is banned within the time limit, one is randomly chosen.
  3. Team Formation: Players position their chosen heroes. Positioning is finalized when time runs out.
  4. Pre-Banning: Before the main draft, both players select two heroes to be unavailable for both teams. If no hero is chosen, the most recently pre-banned hero is selected; otherwise, a random 5-star hero is chosen.

The Hall of Fame showcases top-ranked players and tournament champions.

Victory Point Deduction Rules: In Gold League and above, 2% of Victory Points are deducted after a period of inactivity (7 days for Gold, 3 days for Master+). Subsequent deductions occur at the same interval. Players receive warnings before deductions.

Story Stages

Standard Story Stages require no energy and offer no event currency. Dialogue options within these stages can alter the narrative progression, allowing re-entry to explore different choices.

  • Changing Dates: In specific story events, players can navigate between dates using Warp Buttons or a calendar view. All stages on a given date must be cleared to proceed to the next.

Brawl (PvE Auto-Battle)

Brawl is a round-based, automated PvE challenge where players deploy heroes using Brawl Coins. Synergies between heroes, based on element and affiliation, are key to forming strong teams. Success earns Reputation rewards.

  • Difficulty: Starts on Normal. Completing Normal unlocks Challenge difficulty.
  • Objective: Defeat 25 rounds of enemies. Champions earn various Reputation rewards.

Brawl Rank System

  • Rank Up: Earn experience after each battle. Higher difficulty and progression yield more experience. Rank levels can also be purchased with Skystone.
  • Rank Rewards:
    1. Relic Pieces: Awarded with each rank up, used to upgrade Relics.
    2. Hero Unlocks: New heroes become available for Brawl at certain ranks.

Brawl Preparation

  • Hero Information: Players can preview available heroes by grade and check elemental and affiliation synergies. Tapping a hero's icon reveals more details. Some heroes are unlocked as your Brawl Rank increases.
  • Relics: These provide beneficial effects during Brawl. They are upgraded using Relic Pieces. Advancing to the next grade requires enhancing all connected effects in the previous grade, allowing for strategic build choices.

Draft Arena

Draft Arena is a time-gated, real-time PvP mode where players use pre-provided heroes rather than their own roster. The goal is to battle against other players to earn rewards.

Quick Tips

  • Prioritize Hero Awakening for significant stat and skill boosts.
  • Farm Hunts consistently for crafting materials and equipment.
  • Understand Set Effects to build synergistic hero teams.
  • Utilize Penguins for fast hero leveling.
  • Explore Side Story Choices to experience different narratives and unlock content.
