Epic Seven Gacha System Explained: Summoning Banners & Unit Acquisition

Updated October 12, 2026

Epic Seven's gacha system, often called 'Summoning,' is the primary method for acquiring new heroes and artifacts. Understanding its nuances is crucial for strategic resource management and expanding your roster efficiently. This guide will demystify the different summoning banners, currencies, and special systems available.

Summoning Currencies and Costs

Various currencies are used for summoning different types of units. Knowing their value and where to acquire them is key:

  • Covenant Bookmarks: The most common currency for standard summons. Each summon costs 5 bookmarks.
  • Mystic Medals: Used for the specialized Mystic Summon banner. Each summon costs 50 medals.
  • Galaxy Bookmarks: Used for Moonlight Summons, which feature Light and Dark elemental heroes. Each summon costs 5 bookmarks.
  • Covenant Coins, Mystic Coins, Galaxy Coins: These are earned from summoning on their respective banners after acquiring a specific number of 5-star heroes. They can be exchanged for rare items and units in dedicated shops.
  • Powder of Knowledge: Obtained by selling 5-star artifacts or from covenant summons. Used in the shop for exchanging specific artifacts.
  • Transmit Stones: Acquired from summoning 3-star heroes, selling 4-star and 5-star heroes, or various in-game achievements. Primarily used in the shop for catalysts, Molagora, and occasional 4-star and 5-star unit tickets.

Understanding Banner Types

Epic Seven features several distinct summoning banners, each with different hero pools and mechanics:

  • Covenant Summon: The permanent banner containing all standard heroes and artifacts. It's not generally recommended for extensive pulling due to its wide hero pool.
  • Limited/Rate-Up Banners (Custom & Hero/Artifact): These rotating banners feature specific 5-star heroes and sometimes their exclusive artifacts at an increased rate. They typically operate on a 120-pull pity system.
    • Custom Group Summon: Allows players to select three previously released limited or covenant heroes to be featured on a banner, offering a chance to acquire them. Only one hero can be pitied.
  • Mystic Summon: Features a rotating selection of Moonlight (Light/Dark) 5-star heroes and standard 5-star heroes. This banner also has a pity system, typically at 200 pulls for the featured Moonlight unit.
  • Moonlight Summon: Uses Galaxy Bookmarks to summon Light and Dark elemental heroes exclusively. There is no pity system here, making it a pure lottery.

Pity and Guaranteed Summons

Many banners in Epic Seven offer a 'pity' system, ensuring you will eventually receive the featured unit:

  • 120 Summons (Covenant/Limited Banners): For most rate-up banners (excluding Custom Group Summon), if you perform 119 summons without acquiring the featured 5-star hero, your 120th summon is guaranteed to be that hero.
  • 200 Summons (Mystic Banner): The Mystic Summon banner guarantees the featured Moonlight 5-star hero after 200 pulls if they haven't been acquired already.

Even if you don't get the featured unit, every summon contributes to other resources like Powder of Knowledge and Transmit Stones, making pulls never completely without value.

Special Unit Acquisition Systems

Story Summon

The Story Summon is a unique system allowing you to target specific standard 5-star heroes you don't own:

  1. Initiate a Side Story: Select a hero from the 'Hero Journal' that you don't possess and activate their side story. This rewards 'Story Collection' materials.
  2. Spend 4 Story Collection Materials: Use these materials to unlock a temporary Story Summon banner for that specific hero. The very first unlock is free.
  3. Summon within the Time Limit: This banner functions like a regular rate-up banner, featuring the selected hero and a 5-star artifact at 1% rates each. It adheres to the 120-pull pity system. The banner remains active for 7 days. Ensure you have enough Bookmarks for 120 pulls before activating it to guarantee your desired hero.

Milestone of Radiance & Moonlight Blessing

These systems are designed to provide significant advantages to new players:

  • Milestone of Radiance: This progressive reward system provides various resources and a crucial choice of a strong 5-star hero. The first golden chest offers a selection between Charles, Tenebria, or Kise. Charles is frequently recommended for his versatility. Prioritize acquiring the destruction/critical and speed/health gear sets from its exchange shop.
  • Moonlight Blessing: This system grants new players a free 5-star Moonlight hero from a limited selection after completing certain early game objectives. While all options are strong, Ruele of Light is a common top recommendation due to her excellent utility. Arbiter Vildred and Dark Corvus are also excellent choices.

Gacha Strategy for New Players

As a newcomer, focus your summoning efforts strategically:

  • Save Bookmarks for Limited Banners: Limited heroes are often extremely powerful and may not return for a long time. Prioritize these over standard covenant summons.
  • Complete Milestone of Radiance and Moonlight Blessing: These free units and gear sets will form the backbone of your early teams.
  • Utilize the Story Summon Wisely: Once you have a better understanding of the game and specific team needs, the Story Summon can be used to acquire a missing piece for your roster.
  • Don't Chase Every Unit: It's impossible to get every hero. Focus on building balanced teams for content like Adventure, Hunts, and Abyss.

Quick Tips

  • Always have enough Covenant Bookmarks for 120 pulls before attempting a limited banner for a guaranteed hero.
  • Mystic Medals are scarce; save them for Moonlight heroes you really want.
  • Never summon on the standard Covenant banner with regular Bookmarks unless you have no other options.
  • Prioritize gear sets from the Milestone of Radiance for immediate power boosts.
  • Choose Charles from Milestone of Radiance and Ruele of Light from Moonlight Blessing for generally strong starts.
