MapleStory Classic Accuracy Guide

Updated October 21, 2026

Accuracy (ACC) determines whether your physical attacks connect in MapleStory Classic World, with both enemy avoidability and level differences affecting the result. More ACC helps prevent missed attacks, but it does not raise the damage of a successful hit.

What Accuracy Affects

Physical attacks undergo a hit check before damage is calculated. A failed check deals zero damage, so even strong offensive stats cannot compensate for consistently missing your target.

FactorEffect on accuracy or hit chance
DEXMain stat contribution to base ACC
LUKSmaller contribution to base ACC
EquipmentAdds ACC to your base amount
SkillsCan provide additional ACC
Enemy avoidabilitySets the threshold your attack must clear
Enemy levelMakes connecting harder when the enemy outlevels you

Spells follow different rules: magic attacks do not perform an accuracy check.

Calculating Your ACC

Every class uses the same base calculation, regardless of weapon choice:

base ACC = floor(DEX / 3) + floor(LUK / 6) + 5
total ACC = base ACC + gear ACC + skill ACC

floor means rounding down. Each stat contribution is rounded separately before the values are added together.

DEX contributes more heavily than LUK. Bowman and thief builds commonly include DEX as a main or supporting stat, while conventional warrior builds carry enough to maintain dependable hits. Equipment bonuses and skills such as Nimble Body and Focus add directly to the calculated base.

There is no class-specific replacement for this formula.

How Physical Hit Checks Work

The current testing model combines your ACC, the monster’s avoidability, and any level disadvantage:

L = max(0, monsterLevel - characterLevel)
A = ACC × 100 / ((L + 51) × 5)
f = 0.3 / (1 + exp((A - avoid) / 12))
roll = uniform random number in [0.95 - f, 1.05 + f]

Attack connects when:
roll × A ≥ avoid

Here, avoid represents enemy avoidability, and exp is the natural exponential function.

  • L counts how many levels the monster has over you. Against an equal-level or lower-level enemy, it is 0.
  • A is the scaled accuracy value used for the check. A larger level disadvantage lowers it.
  • f adjusts the range of possible random rolls.
  • The final comparison determines whether the attack connects.

When scaled accuracy comfortably exceeds avoidability, hits become nearly guaranteed. As that advantage shrinks, missing becomes much more common.

Why Higher-Level Monsters Are Harder to Hit

Enemy avoidability alone is not enough to judge whether a training target is suitable. Fighting above your level reduces the accuracy value used in the hit check.

Consider this matchup:

DetailValue
CharacterLevel 50 Assassin
Total ACC89
TargetRed Drake
Target level60
Target avoidability34
Approximate hit rate14%

Despite having 89 ACC, this Assassin connects on only about 14% of attacks. The 10-level disadvantage makes the target much harder to hit than its avoidability might suggest.

For efficient training, higher-level enemies require a substantial accuracy cushion. The level difference also penalizes damage on successful attacks, creating a separate drawback beyond missed swings.

Do Magicians Need Accuracy?

Spells that reach their target always connect. The magic attack tab reports a 100% hit rate, and enemy avoidability is not tested against spell attacks.

There is no separate magic-accuracy calculation or accuracy requirement for landing spells. For spell hit chance, investing in ACC provides no benefit.

How Certain Are These Mechanics?

These findings reflect pre-launch verification:

  • The DEX/LUK calculation was confirmed across all classes through stat-window checks that accounted for equipment.
  • The physical hit model matches current gameplay testing, though further testing may refine the random-roll limits.
  • Testing confirmed that magic attacks bypass the miss check.

Quick Tips

  • Improve ACC to reduce misses, not to increase damage per landed attack.
  • Check the monster’s level as well as its avoidability before choosing a training spot.
  • Consider equipment and accuracy-granting skills alongside your DEX and LUK.
  • If higher-level enemies cause frequent misses, try targets closer to your level.
  • Do not build ACC solely to improve spell hit chance.
