MapleStory Classic Beginner Guide

Updated October 21, 2026

Every character in MapleStory Classic World begins as a Beginner, with three basic skills available before choosing a combat class. At level 10, you can permanently advance into Warrior, Magician, Bowman, or Thief, so use these early levels to decide which playstyle suits you.

Beginner Overview

Beginner is both the starting branch and starting tier. Its small skill set offers movement, healing, and a ranged attack, but it does not include the specialized abilities of the four main classes.

The details below reflect pre-launch information and may change before release.

Beginner Skills

Each Beginner skill has a maximum level of 3. Their functions differ enough that it helps to understand what each one provides before spending skill points.

SkillMaximum levelMP cost rangeEffect

Recovery35–15Restores HP gradually over 30 seconds.
Three Snails33–5Sends snail shells at distant monsters.

Nimble Feet helps you move around, Recovery replenishes health over time, and Three Snails lets you attack without standing beside a monster.

Choosing Your First Job

Your first advancement determines your class path. Start by comparing each branch’s main stat, weapon options, and combat style.

MagicianINTRanged magicWands, staves
BowmanDEXRanged attacks that consume arrowsBows, crossbows

Warrior

Choose Warrior if you want to fight at close range with melee weapons.

  • Power Strike: Delivers a strong hit against one target.
  • Slash Blast: Strikes multiple nearby enemies.
  • Iron Body: Increases Weapon Def.

Magician

Magician suits players who prefer attacking from a distance with spells.

  • Energy Bolt: Hits one enemy ahead of you with magic.
  • Magic Claw: Provides another single-target spell against an enemy in front.
  • Magic Guard: Redirects some incoming damage to MP rather than HP.

Bowman

Bowman focuses on distance combat with bows or crossbows. Its attacks consume arrows, making ammunition part of your preparation.

  • Arrow Blow: Launches a powerful shot at one target.
  • Double Shot: Can strike multiple enemies.
  • Focus: Improves both Accuracy and Evasion.

Thief

Thief offers two weapon approaches: throwing stars with a claw or attacking nearby enemies with a dagger.

  • Lucky Seven: Throws stars at one target, with damage tied to LUK.
  • Dark Sight: Conceals you, preventing attacks against you while also stopping you from attacking.
  • Disorder and Double Stab round out its signature skill lineup.

How to Advance at Level 10

Quick Tips

  • Pick your preferred combat style before committing to a job.
  • Keep the primary stats straight: STR for Warrior, INT for Magician, DEX for Bowman, and LUK for Thief.
  • Use Nimble Feet for temporary mobility and Recovery for healing over 30 seconds.
  • Try Three Snails when you need a ranged Beginner attack.
  • Remember to carry arrows if you choose Bowman.
  • Use Phil's Call from Lith Harbor to reach your advancement town.
  • Treat these details as pre-launch information rather than final release guarantees.
