MapleStory Classic Bandit Guide

Updated October 21, 2026

Bandit brings the Thief branch into close combat in MapleStory Classic World, pairing a dagger with the option of a defensive shield. LUK is its main stat, while STR contributes to scaling and individual equipment choices determine which additional stat requirements you need to meet.

How to Become a Bandit

Your character must already be a Thief and reach level 30 or above.

To advance:

  1. Travel to Kerning City once you meet the level requirement.
  2. Begin the Thief advancement quest for your second job.
  3. Finish the quest and select Bandit.

The other available choice is Assassin, so check your selection before committing to the dagger-focused route.

Plan Your Stats Around Your Dagger

LUK is central to Bandit, but dagger requirements are not uniform. Some weapons ask for STR and LUK, while others require DEX and LUK.

That distinction matters when planning upgrades. At level 30, for example, Cass requires STR 25 and LUK 60, whereas Reef Claw needs DEX 25 and LUK 60. Meeting one weapon’s requirements does not automatically qualify you for the other.

Armor also frequently requires DEX. Rather than following a fixed allocation rule without checking your gear, identify your next dagger and armor upgrades first.

Dagger Options and Requirements

The following options cover early Thief gearing through level 50. Weapon attack values are shown as W.Atk.

DaggerRequired levelRequired statsW.Atk

Bazlud45STR 40, LUK 9063
Sai50STR 45, LUK 10065
Shinkita50DEX 45, LUK 10068

Compare requirements alongside attack. Reef Claw has more listed W.Atk than Cass at level 30, and Shinkita exceeds Sai at level 50, but both comparisons involve different secondary-stat requirements.

Shields for a Dagger Setup

Bandit can equip a shield alongside its dagger. These wristguards share a level requirement, but one has a notably different stat profile.

ShieldRequired levelRequired stats
Jurgen Wristguard22DEX 12, LUK 34
Nimble Wristguard22DEX 12, LUK 34
Seclusion Wristguard22DEX 34, LUK 12

Check Seclusion Wristguard carefully: its DEX requirement is 34, not 12. Do not assume it matches the other two wristguards.

Armor Milestones to Watch

These selected pieces illustrate how armor requirements increase as you level. They are planning examples rather than a mandatory equipment set.

Pink MystiqueTop70DEX 60, LUK 130

Two exceptions deserve attention:

  • Blue Pilfer requires less DEX and LUK than the level-40 Khaki Shadow top.
  • Light Mantis needs DEX 60, while Light Mantis Pants requires DEX 50. Both need LUK 110.

Matching levels or related item names do not guarantee matching requirements.

Quick Tips

  • Reach level 30 as a Thief, then head to Kerning City for advancement.
  • Choose Bandit rather than Assassin when completing the job change.
  • Plan dagger upgrades before committing stats to STR or DEX.
  • Check armor requirements separately from weapon requirements.
  • Consider a shield for your dagger setup, but verify its stat thresholds.
  • Treat progression details as pre-launch information; 3rd-job advancement is not available at that stage.
