MapleStory Classic Assassin Guide

Updated October 21, 2026

Assassin turns MapleStory Classic World’s Thief into a mobile ranged attacker, using a claw to launch throwing stars from a distance. Its damage plan centers on Lucky Seven, with LUK-focused equipment and enough DEX to support your chosen upgrades.

These details reflect pre-launch information. Third-job advancement is not available in this version of Classic World.

Assassin is a good fit if you prefer fighting at range and repositioning frequently. Rather than replacing Lucky Seven with a new core attack, the class builds around it through stronger equipment, stat investment, and supporting abilities.

How to Become an Assassin

You can begin pursuing Assassin once your Thief reaches level 30.

  • Visit Kerning City to begin the Thief’s second-job advancement quest.
  • Finish the required quest.
  • Select Assassin when choosing your specialization.

The other route is Bandit, so check your selection before committing. Assassin is the choice for claw-based, throwing-star combat.

Stats and Equipment Priorities

LUK is your primary stat, while DEX also contributes to the class’s scaling and determines whether you can equip many upgrades. Plan around the requirements of specific items rather than assuming that reaching their level requirement is enough.

A practical gearing approach is to:

  • Pick the next claw you intend to use.
  • Check its level, DEX, and LUK requirements.
  • Compare those requirements against your armor choices.
  • Favor LUK-oriented upgrades while keeping your intended equipment usable.

For example, Adamantium Guards requires level 30, DEX 30, and LUK 65. By comparison, Blue Steal requires level 30, DEX 20, and LUK 50—meeting the armor’s requirements does not automatically qualify you for the claw.

Claw Upgrade Milestones

The following examples provide a straightforward equipment roadmap. They are reference options, not a requirement to purchase every upgrade.

Several alternatives share these listed requirements and attack values. At level 30, Mithril Guards and Steel Guards match Adamantium Guards; at level 50, Steel Slain, Dark Slain, and Blood Slain match Sapphire Slain.

Throwing Stars and Armor

Throwing stars are consumable ammunition and occupy the off-hand slot. That slot is therefore unavailable for a shield, making a claw-and-shield setup unsuitable for Assassin.

Your armor comes from the Thief equipment line, including light clothing, hats, gloves, and shoes. These examples show how requirements increase after advancement:

Check each item individually: even equipment at the same level can have different stat thresholds.

Quick Tips

  • Begin the advancement process in Kerning City at level 30.
  • Choose Assassin, not Bandit, for ranged claw combat.
  • Build around Lucky Seven rather than expecting advancement to replace it.
  • Check your next claw’s requirements before committing to stat or gear changes.
  • Keep throwing stars stocked; your ranged setup depends on ammunition.
  • Use your mobility to maintain distance instead of relying on a shield.
  • Treat progression plans as provisional while the game remains in its pre-launch state.
