MapleStory Classic Crossbowman Guide

Updated October 21, 2026

Crossbowman turns the Bowman into a DEX-driven crossbow specialist in MapleStory Classic World, using bolts and piercing attacks to fight enemies arranged in a line. Available from level 30, this path trades the Hunter’s bow focus for crossbows and the signature Iron Arrow skill.

These details reflect pre-launch information. Classic World does not currently offer a 3rd-job advancement.

Crossbowman suits players who enjoy positioning enemies before attacking. Iron Arrow pierces multiple targets along its flight path, making enemy alignment an important part of the class’s combat style.

How to Become a Crossbowman

You must already be a Bowman and reach level 30 or above before taking the second-job advancement.

  1. Visit Athena Pierce’s school in Henesys to begin the advancement quest.
  2. Find the Bowman Job Instructor at The Road to the Dungeon for the test.
  3. Finish the advancement quest and select Crossbowman, rather than Hunter.

This Hunter–Crossbowman decision is the Bowman tree’s only branch split. Changing that selection requires a job-reset item, so decide which weapon style you want before completing the process.

Hunter specializes in bows; Crossbowman specializes in crossbows. Their weapons are not substitutes for one another, although both classes use the same Bowman armor line.

Combat and Skill Overview

Your original Bowman abilities remain usable after advancing. The new skill set adds crossbow proficiency, faster attacks, ammunition conservation, and piercing damage.

SkillMaximum levelUnlock requirementMP costMain effect

Soul Arrow: Crossbow20Crossbow Booster level 525 → 5Temporarily prevents attacks from consuming ammunition

Crossbow Mastery, Crossbow Booster, Final Attack, and Soul Arrow require an equipped crossbow for their effects.

Amazon’s Judgement has an unusual listed prerequisite: Bow Mastery level 5, rather than Crossbow Mastery. Because this is pre-launch information, verify its requirement in the game before planning skill points around it.

Using Iron Arrow Effectively

Iron Arrow sends a piercing shot through enemies positioned along the same line. Its stated limit is 4 monsters per attack, and each successive enemy takes less damage.

That makes positioning more valuable than simply firing into a scattered group. Look for opportunities to put several enemies along the bolt’s path, and remember that later targets will receive weaker hits.

Understanding the Support Skills

Crossbow Booster improves attack speed but consumes both HP and MP when used. Only its MP range is specified above; an HP cost is not provided.

Final Attack: Crossbow is a toggle. Activate it to enable its follow-up attack chance, then use it again to switch the effect off. Its bonus hit targets one enemy rather than reproducing Iron Arrow’s piercing coverage.

Soul Arrow: Crossbow reduces ammunition consumption while active. Reaching it requires Crossbow Booster level 5, while Booster itself requires Crossbow Mastery level 5.

Crossbow Equipment Progression

Crossbowmen use bolts placed in the off-hand slot as consumable ammunition. Keep a supply available whenever Soul Arrow is not covering your ammunition use.

The following crossbows provide equipment checkpoints from early Bowman levels through level 50:

CrossbowRequired levelStat requirementsW.Atk
Crossbow10DEX 2532
Battle Crossbow15DEX 3537
Balanche20STR 10, DEX 4539
Mountain Crossbow25STR 15, DEX 5547
Eagle Crow30STR 20, DEX 6552
Heckler40STR 30, DEX 8559
Silver Crow45STR 35, DEX 9567
Rower50STR 40, DEX 10572

DEX drives the class, but equipment can also demand STR. For example, Eagle Crow needs STR 20 and DEX 65 at level 30, while Rower needs STR 40 and DEX 105 at level 50.

Plan around the requirements of your intended weapon rather than assuming that reaching its level requirement is enough.

Armor Checkpoints

Crossbowman and Hunter share Bowman armor options. These examples show how requirements increase as you progress:

Check weapon and armor requirements separately. At level 30, for instance, Eagle Crow requires DEX 65, whereas Blue Hawkeye requires DEX 50.

Quick Tips

  • Reach level 30 as a Bowman, then begin advancement in Henesys.
  • Choose carefully: switching between Hunter and Crossbowman requires a job-reset item.
  • Line up enemies for Iron Arrow, which hits up to 4 targets.
  • Track STR requirements alongside your primary DEX investment.
  • Carry bolts and equip them in the off-hand slot.
  • Remember the support-skill chain: Crossbow Mastery level 5 → Crossbow Booster level 5 → Soul Arrow.
  • Confirm Amazon’s Judgement’s prerequisite in-game before committing points.
