MapleStory Classic Fame Guide

Updated October 21, 2026

Fame in MapleStory Classic World measures a character’s reputation, independently of their level or combat attributes. It offers no damage, HP, or accuracy bonus, but it does unlock one quest in the launch version.

How Fame Works

Your Fame total changes through quest rewards and actions taken by other players. Raising it will not make your character stronger: otherwise identical characters deal the same damage regardless of their Fame.

FeatureRule
Combat benefitsNone
Quest rewards at launch13 quests provide 23 Fame altogether
Player-given FameEach action adds or removes 1 point
Daily allowanceEach character can perform 1 Fame action
Recipient restrictionsNo per-recipient restriction
Negative totalsPossible; no minimum has been confirmed
Launch quest requirementBuilding a New House For Blackbull requires 10 Fame

Quests provide a finite amount you can earn through progression. Other players supply the social side of the system, using their daily allowance to increase or decrease someone else’s total.

Every Launch Quest That Awards Fame

The 13 available Fame-rewarding quests span levels 21–48. Completing all of them yields 23 Fame.

Which Quest Lines Give the Most?

Three NPCs account for 18 of the 23 available quest Fame:

  • Rowen the Fairy: 9 Fame across five cursed-doll quests.
  • Shumi: 6 Fame from her three lost-money quests.
  • Sabitrama: 3 Fame from two medicine quests.

These are the main quest lines to prioritize when building your reputation without relying on other players.

Giving Fame and Defaming Players

Each character has one daily action, shared between increasing and decreasing Fame. Giving someone +1 uses the same allowance that would let you give someone else −1.

That allowance applies across all recipients. Once you use it, you cannot perform another Fame action that day simply by choosing a different character.

The recipient does not have an equivalent daily cap. Several players can each spend their action on the same character, allowing that character to gain—or lose—multiple points during a single day. There is also no separate restriction preventing a giver from choosing the same recipient again on another day.

Spending your action does not change your own Fame. Only the recipient’s total changes.

Can Fame Fall Below Zero?

Yes. Defaming can push a character into negative numbers, and no lower boundary has been observed. A technical storage limit may exist, but no confirmed minimum is known.

The Quest That Requires Fame

At launch, Building a New House For Blackbull is the only quest with a Fame requirement.

You must already have 10 Fame before starting; its 2-point reward cannot help satisfy that initial requirement. No other launch quest requires Fame.

There is enough Fame available from earlier quests to reach the threshold without receiving points from other players. For example, Sabitrama’s two quests, Shumi’s three quests, and Proof of Companionship award exactly 10 Fame combined, assuming you have not lost any through defaming.

Rules That Remain Unconfirmed

Two details are still unresolved for MapleStory Classic World:

  • Minimum level for giving Fame: The level needed to use a Fame action has not been confirmed.
  • Daily reset timing: The exact time when the allowance refreshes is unknown.

Avoid planning around a specific eligibility level or reset hour until those details are established.

Fame Trading and Negative-Fame Collecting

In the original MapleStory, players sometimes exchanged mesos for Fame. A seller would use their daily action on a buyer in return for payment.

These arrangements had no escrow or dedicated trade-window protection. Someone had to fulfill their side first, leaving the transaction dependent on trust; reliable sellers could build a returning customer base.

Players also paid for defaming services, directing sellers to lower another character’s reputation instead. Multiple participants could drive a target well below zero, though some players deliberately collected negative Fame as a badge of distinction.

These are historical practices, not a protected trading feature or a confirmed description of Classic World’s current market.

Quick Tips

  • Aim for 10 Fame before attempting Blackbull’s level 48 house quest.
  • Prioritize Rowen, Shumi, and Sabitrama for 18 Fame across their quests.
  • Choose your daily recipient carefully: increasing and decreasing Fame share one allowance.
  • Do not chase Fame for combat power—it provides none.
  • Remember that multiple players can affect your total in the same day.
  • Treat paid Fame arrangements cautiously; historical trades relied on trust rather than transaction protection.
