MapleStory Classic Getting started Guide

Updated October 21, 2026

MapleStory Classic World starts you as a Beginner, then sends you toward a permanent class choice and the wider hunting grounds of Victoria Island. This walkthrough covers your opening levels, stat planning, advancement routes, equipment, and the systems worth learning before level 30.

Your Launch-Day Roadmap

At Grand Launch on October 21, 2026, the available adventure centers on Maple Island and Victoria Island. Windia is the game world, with channels providing separate instances of its maps.

MilestoneYour next priority
Levels 1–10Learn combat and questing on Maple Island; save your boat fare
Level 10Reach Victoria Island, select your first job, and unlock crafting
Levels 10–30Improve your skills, replace shop equipment, and find efficient training spots
Level 30Complete your second-job trial
Beyond level 30Seek crafted equipment and monster drops while exploring tougher areas

Victoria Island supports progression into the fifties, with its broader level range reaching roughly 60. Do not plan your launch progression around Orbis, El Nath, or third jobs: those are later additions.

Plan Your Stats Before Spending Points

Each level awards 5 ability points. Once assigned, those points require a reset item to redistribute, so decide which class interests you before committing heavily to a stat.

AttributeBest matched classMain benefits
STR — StrengthWarriorMelee damage and access to most Warrior weapons
DEX — DexterityBowmanBow/crossbow damage and accuracy
INT — IntelligenceMagicianSpell damage and MP growth
LUK — LuckThiefThief damage and avoidability

HP and MP are separate from these four attributes; you do not allocate ability points directly into them. Their level-up gains are fixed rather than randomly rolled.

Current classHP gained per levelMP gained per level
Beginner+16+12
Warrior+28+12
Bowman+22+17
Thief+22+17
Magician+16+22

Your first advancement also adds a one-time increase to both HP and MP, with each bonus reaching into the hundreds.

The bottom-screen meters track health, skill energy, and experience. Death can remove up to 10% of your current-level experience bar, but it cannot lower your level or remove inventory items. Falls also cause damage according to distance, although the exact thresholds and maximum damage remain unconfirmed.

Learn the Basics on Maple Island

Your opening area contains 25 maps, including three settlements: Southperry, Amherst, and Mushroom Town. Southperry serves as both your arrival point and eventual departure port; the other two towns provide inland shops.

Use these first levels to practice movement, attacks, looting, and NPC conversations. The island’s enemies offer a gentle progression, beginning with a Tutorial Jr. Sentinel that cannot retaliate.

Blue Snail2514Widespread across Maple Island
Shroom3626Mushroom Garden
Red Snail4688Snail hunting areas
Orange Mushroom814215Mushroom Garden

Collect shells from Snail and Blue Snail drops. They supply Three Snails, your only ranged attack while you remain a Beginner.

Your three Beginner skills each have a maximum skill level of 3, and remain available after your class advancement:

SkillUse
Three SnailsLaunches a shell at a distant target
RecoveryGradually restores health over 30 seconds
Nimble FeetTemporarily boosts movement speed

Taking the Boat

When you are around level 10, return to Southperry’s dock and speak with Shanks. The crossing costs 300 mesos and carries you to Lith Harbor.

Keep that fare available before making unnecessary purchases. Every character must complete the Maple Island opening and use this departure route; there is no island skip.

Choose Your First Job at Level 10

After reaching Victoria Island, travel to the hometown of your chosen branch and speak with its instructor. Every first job requires level 10, including Magician.

There is no first-advancement quest or additional requirement beyond the level threshold. Advancing gives you 1 skill point for your new class tree, alongside the HP and MP bonuses.

Your branch selection is permanent, so choose according to the combat style you want.

ClassCombat style and weaponsAdvancement locationInstructor

BowmanLong-range physical attacks with bows or crossbows; requires arrowsBowman Instructional School, HenesysAthena Pierce
ThiefAgile combat using dagger attacks or stars thrown with clawsThieves' Hideout, Kerning CityDark Lord

Warriors have the largest health pool and heaviest armor. Magicians use wands and staves, while Bowmen favor distance and Thieves offer a choice between close combat and thrown attacks.

Your First Skill Tree

Each branch begins with 6 skills, combining attacks with defensive tools, buffs, or passive improvements.

Find Your Way Around Victoria Island

Victoria Island contains 254 maps, spanning woodland, rocky terrain, urban areas, jungle, and swamps. Lith Harbor is your landing point on the southern coast, and the rest of the island is accessible on foot.

DestinationWhy it matters early
Lith HarborArrival shops and access to Florina Beach
HenesysBowman advancement, Henesys Market, and nearby beginner hunting areas
ElliniaMagician advancement inside the Magic Library
PerionWarrior advancement and metalworking services
Kerning CityThief advancement, plus subway access toward sewers and swamps
SleepywoodAccess to Ant Tunnel and Sleepy Dungeon; increasingly relevant during your twenties

The six towns form your main navigation anchors. Florina Beach is another destination to keep in mind, reached through Lith Harbor.

Train Efficiently Through Level 30

Start with pigs and mushrooms near Henesys as you move into your teens. During your twenties, explore the Ant Tunnel beneath Sleepywood.

The best target is not automatically the highest-level enemy you can survive. Favor monsters near your level that fall after only a few attacks, then move on when your damage improves.

These enemy stats help you compare potential targets:

EnemyLevelHPEXP
Slime611512
Pig712813

Green Mushroom1423326
Axe Stump1737132
Stirge2029637

Horny Mushroom3071874

Treat the table as a comparison tool, not a mandatory sequence. Your class, damage, and ability to land hits should guide when you change hunting spots.

Buy Early Gear, Then Learn Crafting

Town vendors cover your equipment needs for the first 30 levels. Class-town inventories offer weapon and armor upgrades at 5-level intervals, making shop purchases a straightforward way to stay equipped.

Once you move beyond level 30, new equipment comes from crafting and monster loot rather than further shop tiers.

Scrolls provide permanent equipment stat upgrades, but each item has a limited number of upgrade slots. Be particularly cautious with Chaos-tier scrolls: nearly half of their failed attempts destroy the equipment.

Crafting Professions

Crafting becomes available at level 10, regardless of class. All 6 professions can be developed on one character, and each has its own recipe book and progression from profession level 1 to 10.

Monsters supply crafting materials, so saving useful drops lets you work on professions alongside normal training.

Complete Your Second Advancement at Level 30

At level 30, return to your original class instructor. They provide a letter for a nearby Job Instructor; deliver it, complete the trial, then report back.

Starting branchSecond-job choicesOriginal instructorTrial contact’s map

MagicianWizard (Fire/Poison), Wizard (Ice/Lightning), ClericGrendel the Really OldThe Forest North of Ellinia
BowmanHunter, CrossbowmanAthena PierceThe Road to the Dungeon
ThiefAssassin, BanditDark LordConstruction Site North of Kerning City

This advancement narrows your specialty. Warriors choose between sword/axe, sword/blunt, and spear-focused paths; Magicians select an elemental direction or support role. Bowmen specialize in bows or crossbows, while Thieves commit to stars or daggers.

Use the Free Market and Build Your Mesos

Classic World has no auction house. Its player economy revolves around the Free Market, a safe area for player shops and direct negotiation.

Enter through a town portal rather than looking for a walking route. Both Henesys Market and Perion have access points, and leaving returns you to whichever town you entered from.

Your basic income sources are:

  • Mesos dropped by enemies.
  • Quest rewards.
  • Selling unwanted equipment to NPC shops.

Learn the Free Market early, especially as crafted and dropped gear becomes more important after level 30.

What Returning Players Should Know

Classic World recreates the pre–Big Bang experience as a new release rather than simply reopening the old game. Two immediate differences are the level 10 Magician advancement, replacing the original level 8 requirement, and the addition of six player-crafting professions.

Launch availability also differs from what appeared during testing:

ContentStatus at Grand Launch
Maple Island and Victoria IslandAvailable
Ossyria, including Orbis and El NathNot available; planned for gradual introduction after reworking
Third-job advancementNot available; planned for later
Ludibrium, Aqua Road, Leafre, and fourth jobsNever appeared in a test build

Ossyria and third jobs were playable during the second Closed Online Test, but Nexon has not supplied a release date for their return.

The tested Ossyria route used a ferry departing Ellinia for Orbis, with El Nath below the 15-floor Orbis Tower. That region offered hunting from approximately level 26 to level 90, and El Nath hosted third-job advancement for all 10 specializations. None of that should be treated as launch-day access.

Quick Tips

  • Reserve 300 mesos for Shanks before shopping on Maple Island.
  • Save snail shells if you use Three Snails.
  • Pick a likely class before spending many ability points; redistribution requires a reset item.
  • All four branches advance at level 10, with no first-job quest.
  • Replace early shop equipment at the available 5-level steps.
  • Favor quick, reliable kills over struggling against tougher enemies.
  • Keep crafting materials: one character can develop all 6 professions.
  • Revisit your first instructor at level 30 to begin the second-job trial.
  • Keep valuable equipment away from risky Chaos-tier upgrades.
  • Plan around Victoria Island at launch, not Ossyria or third jobs.
