MapleStory Classic HP Guide
Updated October 21, 2026
HP determines how much punishment your character can take in MapleStory Classic World before dying. A larger health reserve gives you more time to heal, but choosing suitable recovery items and developing your class’s HP growth matter just as much.
HP Basics
HP means Hit Points, also called Health Points. It is a derived resource rather than a primary attribute such as STR or LUK.
Verification status: These details reflect pre-launch information; mechanics marked as approximate or unconfirmed may need checking after release.
| Property | How it works |
|---|---|
| Main purpose | Keeps your character alive through incoming damage |
| Class most focused on HP | Warrior |
| Growth sources | Levels, advancements, Warrior AP investment, equipment, and MaxHP skills |
| When health reaches 0 | Death, an EXP loss, and relocation to a designated respawn location |
Monster attacks, damaging terrain, and PvP-style encounters reduce your current health. For attacks, the relevant physical or magical defense reduces the damage taken from your HP.
Increasing HP does not improve your attacks, accuracy, evasion, or cooldowns. Its benefit is survival.
For example, against repeated 800-damage hits, a character starting with 2,000 HP dies on hit three without healing. A character with 5,500 HP survives until hit seven, creating a much wider recovery window.
Death and respawning
At 0 HP, your character dies immediately. The usual EXP loss is approximately 10% of the EXP needed for that level, with smaller penalties in starter towns and no penalty on certain protected maps.
You return with 1 HP and 1 MP. Most maps send you to a nearby town, while some dungeons use their entrance portal as the respawn location.
Ways to Increase Maximum HP
Your health capacity comes from several systems, with Warriors receiving the strongest overall support.
| Growth method | Details |
|---|---|
| Level gains | Your class determines a fixed increase whenever you level |
| Advancement rewards | Taking a job grants an additional, one-time resource boost |
| AP allocation | Warriors normally have access to MaxHP investment, worth roughly 20+ HP per AP |
| MaxHP Increase | This first-job Warrior passive improves HP earned through leveling |
| Equipment bonuses | Suitable gear and successful HP scrolls add flat health |
Other classes normally lack the MaxHP AP option, apart from rare equipment or event exceptions.
At its maximum skill level, MaxHP Increase approximately doubles a Warrior’s HP growth per level. That extra growth continues to matter throughout later jobs. By endgame, a properly developed Warrior can have around five to six times the health of a Magician at a comparable level.
Later job advancements also provide additional resource boosts, with progressively larger increases across the second, third, and fourth advancements.
HP and MP Growth by Class
Level gains are fixed, not randomly rolled. INT changes neither the base HP increase nor the base MP increase.
| Class | HP gained each level | MP gained each level |
|---|---|---|
| Beginner | +16 | +12 |
| Warrior | +28 | +12 |
| Bowman | +22 | +17 |
| Thief | +22 | +17 |
| Magician | +16 | +22 |
Hunters and Crossbowmen inherit Bowman growth. Assassins and Bandits inherit Thief growth. Relevant MaxHP or MaxMP skills provide extra gains beyond these baseline amounts.
Unlike level gains, advancement rewards can vary within a range:
| Advancing class | Additional HP | Additional MP |
|---|---|---|
| Warrior | +300–350 | +100–125 |
| Bowman | +200–250 | +200–250 |
| Thief | +200–250 | +200–250 |
| Magician | +100–125 | +300 or more |
The upper limit for the Magician’s MP reward remains unconfirmed.
Advancing promptly once you meet your job’s requirements avoids unnecessarily remaining on Beginner resource growth.
Resting and Passive Recovery
Natural HP recovery begins after approximately 5 seconds without dealing or receiving a hit. At low levels, expect about 5 HP every 10 seconds, with modest improvement as your level rises.
That pace helps during downtime, but it is not a reliable answer to active combat damage.
| Recovery option | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Natural regeneration | Slow health recovery while out of combat |
| Chairs | Approximately 4–6× the natural regeneration rate |
| Town inns | Immediate restoration of both resources for a meso payment |
| Map effects | Certain areas increase regeneration; hazardous areas may reduce it |
To sit, double-click a chair from the Set-up inventory tab. Chairs are reusable rather than spent each time you sit. Whether individual chair models have different recovery rates in Classic World still requires verification.
Short breaks of 30–60 seconds between enemy waves can reduce potion spending. Choose somewhere genuinely safe: sitting down or standing beside a portal is not a substitute for avoiding incoming attacks.
Healing During Combat
Potions are the standard emergency option. They restore health immediately, have no casting delay or cooldown under the listed rules, and can be used consecutively. Put your main recovery item on a quick slot so you can heal without opening your inventory.
Cleric healing provides another major recovery route. Heal restores the caster’s HP and that of nearby party members, making a sufficiently developed Cleric a valuable source of sustained party healing. Support progression continues through Priest and Bishop.
Town inns are useful outside combat when you want both HP and MP completely restored for a meso fee.
Match recovery items to missing health
Healing cannot exceed your maximum HP. If you have a 400-HP maximum, an item offering 1,000 HP cannot deliver its full listed benefit; anything beyond your missing health is wasted.
Choose items based on both your total capacity and the amount you usually need to recover. Larger health reserves make bigger recovery items easier to use efficiently.

HP Equipment and Scrolling
Flat HP bonuses can appear on hats, tops, overalls, capes, gloves, and accessories. Warrior armor is particularly likely to support health-focused builds, while earrings and pendants can also provide HP.
Successful HP scroll applications add a flat amount to eligible equipment. A common variant provides approximately +30 HP for each successful slot. Check the specific scroll before investing: ordinary HP scrolls offer smaller, more predictable improvements, while chaos scrolls can produce more disruptive changes.
Equipment gives characters outside the Warrior branch a way to improve survivability without relying on Warrior-only AP allocation.
Can You HP Wash?
HP washing does not work in Classic World.
Elsewhere in MapleStory, this technique relies on INT increasing MP growth. Players then use AP resets to move surplus MP investment into maximum HP.
Classic World removes the necessary INT-based MP scaling. Because each class receives a fixed amount of MP per level, stacking INT does not create the extra MP that washing requires.
Build around the supported HP sources instead: your class, level gains, advancement rewards, equipment, and—where available—Warrior MaxHP investment and skills.
Quick Tips
- Keep healing on a quick slot so you can respond before another hit lands.
- Heal with a safety margin. Surviving one attack is not enough if a second can arrive before you recover.
- Avoid oversized recovery items when most of their healing would overflow.
- Develop MaxHP Increase early as a Warrior to benefit from its added growth over more levels.
- Rest in safe locations when saving mesos matters more than training speed.
- Do not stack INT for HP washing. Fixed MP growth prevents that strategy.
- Treat pre-launch estimates cautiously, especially chair differences and the unconfirmed Magician advancement MP ceiling.
