MapleStory Classic Hunter Guide
Updated October 21, 2026
Hunter is MapleStory Classic World’s bow-focused second-job path, pairing DEX-based combat with explosive arrows and crowd control. Available to Bowmen from level 30, it trades the Crossbowman route for a permanent bow specialisation built around Arrow Bomb.

How to Become a Hunter
Your character must already be a Bowman and have reached level 30 before beginning the second-job advancement.
- Visit Athena Pierce’s school in Henesys to begin the advancement quest.
- Find the Bowman Job Instructor at The Road to the Dungeon for the test.
- Complete the advancement requirements and select Hunter, rather than Crossbowman.
The decision determines your weapon specialisation: Hunter uses bows, while Crossbowman follows the crossbow route.
Combat Style and Skills
Hunter’s defining attack is Arrow Bomb: Bow. Its explosive projectile damages a group of up to 4 enemies and offers a chance to stun affected monsters. That makes clustered enemies a natural target, though the stun should not be treated as guaranteed protection.
Your earlier Bowman abilities remain available, including Arrow Blow, Double Shot, and the first-job DEX and HP passives.
| Skill | Maximum level | Unlock requirement | MP cost progression | Function |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Amazon’s Judgement | 20 | Bow Mastery level 5 | Not specified | Critical strikes slow enemies. |
| Arrow Bomb: Bow | 30 | Not specified | 14 → 28 | Explosive bow attack with a stun chance; hits no more than 4 enemies. |
| Bow Booster | 20 | Bow Mastery level 5 | 30 → 10 | Spends HP and MP for a temporary bow attack-speed boost. |
| Bow Mastery | 20 | Not specified | Not specified | Raises bow mastery and Avoidability. |
| Final Attack: Bow | 30 | Bow Mastery level 3 | Not specified | Toggle that lets attack skills trigger an additional heavy hit against up to 3 enemies. |
| Soul Arrow: Bow | 20 | Bow Booster level 5 | 25 → 5 | Temporarily removes arrow consumption from bow attacks. |
Bow Mastery, Bow Booster, Arrow Bomb, Final Attack, and Soul Arrow require a bow for their effects.
Bow Mastery is an important unlock point: level 3 opens Final Attack, while level 5 enables Bow Booster and Amazon’s Judgement. Raising Bow Booster to level 5 then unlocks Soul Arrow. These dependencies are useful for planning, but they do not establish a complete skill-point build.
Final Attack is a toggle, not simply an always-on passive: activate it to enable its follow-up attacks, then use it again to switch it off.
Bow Progression and Stat Planning
DEX is Hunter’s main attribute, but bow requirements also make STR relevant. Plan around your intended weapon rather than assuming DEX alone will cover every equipment check.
| Bow | Required level | Required attributes | Weapon attack |
|---|---|---|---|
| Beginner’s War Bow | 10 | DEX 25 | 29 |
| War Bow | 10 | DEX 25 | 30 |
| Composite Bow | 15 | STR 15, DEX 35 | 35 |
| Hunter’s Bow | 20 | STR 20, DEX 45 | 42 |
| Battle Bow | 25 | STR 25, DEX 55 | 44 |
| Ryden | 30 | STR 30, DEX 65 | 50 |
| Red Viper | 35 | STR 35, DEX 75 | 52 |
| Vaulter 2000 | 40 | STR 40, DEX 85 | 60 |
| Olympus | 50 | STR 50, DEX 105 | 70 |
At the advancement milestone, Ryden requires STR 30 and DEX 65. Later targets include Vaulter 2000 at level 40 and Olympus at level 50, provided you meet their attribute requirements.
Arrows serve as consumable ammunition and belong in the off-hand slot. Soul Arrow reduces ammunition use while its effect lasts; outside that window, ordinary bow combat still needs arrows.
Armor Milestones
Hunters wear Bowman armor, including leather and reinforced-leather pieces. Both the level requirement and the listed attributes matter when choosing an upgrade.
The following examples provide a compact set of equipment checkpoints rather than an exhaustive inventory.
| Equipment example | Slot | Required level | Required attributes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Blue Hawkeye | Hat | 30 | STR 20, DEX 50 |
| Green Marker | Gloves | 30 | STR 20, DEX 50 |
| Blue Hunter Boots | Shoes | 30 | STR 20, DEX 50 |
| Blue Legolier | Top | 35 | STR 25, DEX 60 |
| Blue Legolier Pants | Bottom | 35 | STR 25, DEX 60 |
| Dark Distinction | Hat | 40 | STR 30, DEX 70 |
| Blue Lumati | Overall | 50 | STR 40, DEX 90 |
| Blue Willow | Gloves | 50 | STR 40, DEX 90 |
| Red Choro | Overall | 60 | STR 50, DEX 110 |
| Blue Patriot | Hat | 70 | STR 60, DEX 130 |
Weapon requirements can exceed those of armor at the same level. For example, level 30 Bowman armor commonly asks for STR 20 and DEX 50, whereas Ryden needs STR 30 and DEX 65.
Quick Tips
- Begin the Hunter advancement in Henesys once your Bowman reaches level 30.
- Choose Hunter only if you want to specialise permanently in bows.
- Aim Arrow Bomb at nearby groups, remembering its 4-enemy limit and chance-based stun.
- Check your next bow’s STR requirement before committing your stat allocation.
- Use Bow Mastery’s level 3 and 5 unlocks to plan access to other skills.
- Keep arrows equipped when Soul Arrow is inactive.
- Remember that Final Attack must be toggled on to enable its extra attacks.
