MapleStory Classic Setup item Guide
Updated October 21, 2026
Setup items in MapleStory Classic World cover chairs for resting and event collectibles for reward exchanges, rather than gear you wear or consumables you activate. They have a dedicated inventory tab, so keeping track of chair space and letter stacks matters during collection events.
Setup Items at a Glance
The pre-launch item roster includes around twenty setup items, divided roughly evenly between chairs and event leaf letters. Their role is narrow: chairs provide recovery while you rest, while letters become useful when exchanged as an event set.
| Property | Details |
|---|---|
| Item category | Setup |
| Inventory location | Setup tab |
| Default capacity | 12 slots; other tabs start with 24 |
| Chair stack limit | 1 |
| Letter stack limit | 100 |
| Main acquisition methods | Quest rewards, event rewards, and event monster drops |
| Data status | Pre-launch |
Unlike Use items, setup items generally do not deliver a one-time effect on activation. They also differ from ordinary Etc materials: their purpose centers on sitting or participating in a specific event exchange.
Chairs: Recovery While Resting
Chairs restore stats through repeated recovery ticks while your character remains seated. To use one, assign it to the active slot, trigger the chair shortcut, and stay still.
Most chairs restore 30 HP and 30 MP per tick, with intervals typically lasting 5 or 10 seconds, depending on the chair. Some restore only one resource.
| Chair or group | Recovery role or distinguishing feature |
|---|---|
| Green Chair, Red Chair, The Green Relaxer | Examples of chairs used for recovery between battles |
| Pink Seal Cushion | Restores HP only |
| Blue Seal Cushion | Restores MP only |
| Sky-blue Wooden Chair | Described as exclusive to Lith Harbor; its appearance is a collectible draw |
When Is a Chair Worth Using?
A chair can reduce potion spending, but recovery takes time. For uninterrupted grinding, potions offer a quicker refill; chairs are better suited to planned breaks, town downtime, or enjoying the sitting animation.
Some chairs stand out through map or event associations rather than stronger recovery. A more distinctive appearance does not necessarily mean better healing.
Event Letters: Collect, Match, and Exchange
Leaf-letter events ask players to gather letters that form a word specified by an event NPC. Monsters drop individual pieces, such as Letter A, Letter E, and Letter S, and the correct collection can be submitted for a reward.
The exchange works as follows:
- Check which word the event NPC requests.
- Gather the required letters from monsters while the event is running.
- Submit the complete matching set to claim the reward.
Letters outside the requested word can still appear as drops, but they do not substitute for the required combination.
| Letter property | Value or behavior |
|---|---|
| Maximum stack | 100 |
| NPC sale value | 1 meso |
| Activation animation | None |
| Reward interaction | Exchange the required set with the event NPC |
| Drop availability | Only during the relevant event |
How to Get Setup Items
Quests and Event Rewards
Most chairs come from quests. Following the recommended quest progression should provide a handful during a character’s first 30 levels, with additional chairs available through later side quests and event chains.
Event Monster Drops
Leaf letters drop from a broad range of mid-level monsters at moderate rates while their event is active. Once that event window closes, those letter drops stop.
Furniture Vendors
Shop availability is limited. Town furniture sellers offer certain basic options—including Green Chair, Red Chair, and Yellow Chair—for a few hundred mesos. Seasonal letters and the more elaborate collectible chairs are not sold this way.
Managing the Setup Tab
The Setup tab begins with 12 slots, compared with 24 in the other inventory tabs. That is usually manageable for a small collection, but letter events can quickly fill it.
Each chair occupies a full slot because its stack limit is 1. Letters group by type in stacks of up to 100, so several different letters require several slots even when you have only a few of each. Additional copies beyond a full stack need more space.
Before collecting event drops, check both your empty slots and the letters needed for the current exchange. Unneeded letters can compete with useful pieces for the same limited storage.
Quick Tips
- Use chairs during breaks to save potions without slowing an active grinding session.
- Check the chair’s recovery type: Pink Seal Cushion restores HP, while Blue Seal Cushion restores MP.
- Confirm the event NPC’s requested word before committing inventory space to letters.
- Budget one slot per chair and one per letter stack of up to 100.
- Remember that event letters stop dropping outside their event window.
- Treat availability and mechanics as pre-launch information, subject to launch changes.
