MapleStory Classic Skill points Guide

Updated October 21, 2026

Skill points (SP) let you unlock and strengthen active abilities and passive bonuses in MapleStory Classic World. Knowing which job tier your points belong to—and spending them before an advancement—helps you avoid losing progress on your build.

How to Earn Skill Points

You receive SP through level-ups after your first job advancement, as well as when advancing to another job tier. Each level gained after entering your first job awards 3 SP, starting with the following level.

ClassFirst level that awards level-up SPSP per level
Magician93
Warrior113
Bowman113
Thief113

Before your first advancement, Beginner progression works differently. Three Snails, Recovery, and Nimble Feet belong to the Maple Island tutorial progression rather than the later class-skill SP system.

Which Skills Can Use Your SP?

Every point retains the job tier it came from. You can allocate it within that tier or to an earlier tier, but never to a later one.

Tier where SP was earnedEligible skill tiers
1st job1st job
2nd job1st or 2nd job
3rd job1st, 2nd, or 3rd job
4th job1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th job

For example, points gained during your second job can improve an unfinished first-job skill. The reverse does not work: banking first-job points will not give you extra points for second-job abilities.

Spend Remaining Points Before Advancing

Unused SP from your current tier is lost when you move to the next job tier. At the level 30 advancement into second job, any leftover first-job points become permanently wasted.

Before completing that advancement—or any later one:

  1. Open your skill window.
  2. Look at the remaining SP count in its upper corner.
  3. Allocate every remaining point to eligible skills.
  4. Confirm the count reads 0 before advancing.

The ability to invest newer points in older skills does not preserve unused points from an earlier tier. Treat each advancement as a deadline for spending your current supply.

Check Skill Requirements Before Allocating

Some abilities remain unavailable for investment until another skill reaches a required level. Review the listed prerequisite before committing points elsewhere, particularly if your planned build depends on unlocking that ability.

Use the skill window to allocate SP, and plan prerequisite investments alongside the abilities you want to improve.

Quick Tips

  • Expect 3 SP for each level gained after your first job advancement.
  • Magicians begin receiving level-up SP at level 9; Warriors, Bowmen, and Thieves begin at level 11.
  • Higher-tier points can improve earlier-tier skills, but earlier-tier points cannot fund later-tier skills.
  • Reach 0 unspent SP before every job advancement.
  • Check prerequisite skill levels before distributing points across your build.
