MapleStory Classic Spearman Guide
Updated October 21, 2026
Spearman in MapleStory Classic World pairs long-reaching melee attacks with buffs that help a party survive. This STR-focused Warrior path uses spears or polearms, favoring hard-hitting swings and group support over shield-based flexibility.
Class Overview
| Feature | Details |
|---|---|
| Branch | Warrior |
| Advancement tier | 2nd job |
| Starting class | Warrior |
| Advancement level | 30 |
| Main attribute | STR |
| Specialized weapons | Spears and polearms |
| Equipment style | Two-handed weapons and Warrior plate armor |
| Home base | Perion |
| Main strengths | Reach, damage per swing, and party durability buffs |
Availability note: These details reflect pre-launch information. At that stage, Classic World did not offer a 3rd-job advancement.
Spearman suits players who want to contribute both melee damage and defensive support. Compared with Fighter’s sword-and-shield options, this specialization commits both hands to its weapon in exchange for stronger individual hits.
Becoming a Spearman
To take this path, you must already be a Warrior at level 30 or above.
- Travel to Perion.
- Visit the pavilion belonging to Dances with Balrog to begin the Warrior advancement quest.
- Finish the quest, then select Spearman.
The other choices at this stage are Fighter and Page, so confirm your selection before committing.
Weapons and Upgrade Planning
Both supported weapon families require two hands, leaving no room for an equipped shield. Plan around your weapon’s level and attribute requirements rather than assuming that reaching its level is enough.
The following options cover advancement-level equipment and later upgrades:
| Weapon | Family | Required level | Required attributes | W.Atk |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Forked Spear | Spear | 30 | STR 65, DEX 30 | 52 |
| Mithril Pole Arm | Polearm | 30 | STR 65, DEX 30 | 52 |
| Nakamaki | Spear | 35 | STR 75, DEX 35 | 57 |
| Axe Pole Arm | Polearm | 35 | STR 75, DEX 35 | 57 |
| Zeco | Spear | 40 | STR 85, DEX 40 | 59 |
| Crescent Polearm | Polearm | 40 | STR 85, DEX 40 | 62 |
| Serpent’s Tongue | Spear | 50 | STR 105, DEX 50 | 69 |
| The Nine Dragons | Polearm | 50 | STR 105, DEX 50 | 72 |
At levels 30 and 35, these spear and polearm options have matching attack values. At levels 40 and 50, the listed polearms carry 3 more W.Atk than their spear counterparts; that comparison alone does not establish overall combat performance.
Armor and Attribute Requirements
Spearmen wear Warrior plate equipment. STR drives the class, but DEX also matters when qualifying for many weapons and armor pieces.
These selected items provide useful gearing checkpoints:
| Armor piece | Slot | Required level | Required attributes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jousting Helmet | Hat | 30 | STR 50, DEX 20 |
| Steel Missel | Gloves | 30 | STR 50, DEX 20 |
| Dark Engrit | Overall | 30 | STR 50, DEX 20 |
| White Martial Arts Pants | Bottom | 30 | STR 50, DEX 20 |
| Great Blue Helmet | Hat | 35 | STR 60, DEX 25 |
| Blue Jangoon Armor | Top | 40 | STR 70, DEX 30 |
| Gold Brist | Gloves | 50 | STR 90, DEX 40 |
| Blue Oriental Helmet | Hat | 60 | STR 110, DEX 50 |
| Silver Planet | Hat | 70 | STR 130, DEX 60 |
Check weapon requirements separately from armor requirements. For example, Forked Spear needs STR 65 and DEX 30, while Jousting Helmet requires STR 50 and DEX 20, despite both being level 30 equipment.
Quick Tips
- Choose Spearman if you enjoy melee combat with a strong party-support role.
- Begin the advancement process in Perion once your Warrior reaches level 30.
- Budget for a two-handed weapon setup; a shield cannot accompany a spear or polearm.
- Check both STR and DEX requirements before purchasing an upgrade.
- Treat higher listed W.Atk as one comparison point, not proof that a weapon family is always better.
- Keep progression expectations tied to the pre-launch rules: 3rd job was not available at that stage.
