MapleStory Classic Wizard (Fire/Poison) Guide

Updated October 21, 2026

The Fire/Poison Wizard in MapleStory Classic World combines focused fire attacks with poison pressure, making it a damage-oriented choice for Magicians who enjoy elemental combat. This guide covers advancement, skills, and equipment using pre-launch details, with an important distinction between Poison Breath and Poison Mist.

Fire provides direct damage against individual enemies, while poison adds damage that can linger. Slow supplies movement control, giving F/P another tool beyond its elemental attacks; Ice/Lightning Wizard also has access to this debuff.

Your earlier Magician abilities remain usable after advancement, including Magic Bolt, Magic Claw, and MP recovery passives.

How to Become a Fire/Poison Wizard

To take this specialization:

  1. Reach level 30 or above as a Magician.
  2. Finish the Magician second-job advancement quest.
  3. Select Fire/Poison Wizard rather than Ice/Lightning Wizard or Cleric.

The advancement quest becomes available at level 30. Third-job advancement is not available in Classic World yet, according to the pre-launch information.

Skills and Their Uses

The detailed second-job lineup includes the following abilities. MP figures show the listed progression from the starting cost to the final cost.

SkillMaximum levelUnlock conditionMP costFunction
Fire Arrow30None listed14 → 28Hits one enemy with fire damage and applies a short burn
Poison Breath30None listed20 → 40Launches a projectile that bursts on impact, damaging as many as 4 nearby enemies
MP Eater20None listedNot listedCan draw MP from enemies when you attack with magic
Meditation20MP Eater level 315 → 25Temporarily raises Magic Attack for nearby party members
Teleport20None listed55 → 15Moves you a fixed distance within your current map, directed with the arrow keys
Slow20Teleport level 515 → 8Reduces the movement speed of as many as 4 monsters

Fire Arrow is your focused fire attack. Its burn deals damage every second over 3 seconds. Fire-aligned monsters take less damage from it, while ice-aligned monsters take more, so elemental matchups matter when choosing targets.

Poison Breath offers a small-area hit rather than a purely single-target attack. Its explosion can damage up to 4 enemies, and affected targets have a chance to become poisoned. Poison application is not guaranteed.

MP Eater has a 5-second interval between absorptions. It cannot draw anything from a monster whose MP has already reached 0.

Slow has a repeat-use restriction: a given monster cannot receive it more than twice consecutively. Avoid treating it as an endlessly renewable control effect.

Poison Breath or Poison Mist?

Pre-launch descriptions are inconsistent about the poison toolkit. The class overview presents Poison Mist as a lingering cloud that repeatedly damages monsters inside its area, but the detailed second-job skill lineup names Poison Breath instead.

That distinction affects how you plan to fight: an impact explosion and a persistent cloud serve different purposes. Confirm Poison Mist’s availability in-game before designing a build around it; its skill cap, MP cost, and prerequisites are not established here.

Practical Combat Priorities

Choose attacks around the enemies you are fighting rather than relying on one element everywhere.

  • Against a priority target: Fire Arrow supplies concentrated damage with a brief burn.
  • Against nearby enemies: Poison Breath can connect with multiple targets through its impact explosion.
  • For movement control: Slow can help manage approaching monsters, subject to its consecutive-use limit.
  • For repositioning: Teleport moves you around the current map, and its listed MP cost decreases as the skill develops.
  • For party damage: Meditation provides a temporary Magic Attack boost to allies nearby.

For skill planning, keep the two confirmed prerequisites in mind: MP Eater level 3 unlocks Meditation, and Teleport level 5 unlocks Slow. These are useful planning milestones, not a complete skill-point allocation.

Weapon Progression

Magic Attack is the key weapon contribution to spell damage. F/P Wizards can use either wands or staves, so compare their requirements and Magic Attack rather than choosing by weapon category alone.

At the advancement milestone, Mithril Wand requires level 30, INT 60, and LUK 20, and provides 55 M.Atk. Later options include Fairy Wand at level 40 and Cromi at level 50, provided you meet their stat requirements.

Armor and Stat Requirements

Magician robes and accessories form the class’s usual armor choices. INT supports your damage scaling, but equipment can also require LUK, so check intended upgrades before committing your stat points.

These selected items illustrate the armor progression without listing every color variant:

Weapon requirements do not always match armor requirements at the same level. For example, White Wizard Robe needs INT 50, while Mithril Wand needs INT 60, despite both being level 30 equipment.

Quick Tips

  • Advance at level 30 by completing the Magician quest and choosing F/P.
  • Compare Magic Attack when evaluating wands and staves.
  • Use Fire Arrow’s elemental advantage against ice-aligned enemies.
  • Remember that Poison Breath can hit 4 enemies, but poison is chance-based.
  • Plan around MP Eater level 3 for Meditation and Teleport level 5 for Slow.
  • Check both INT and LUK requirements before buying upgrades.
  • Verify Poison Mist in-game before building around persistent poison clouds.
